TZM0880 Product Introduction

TZM0880 series MZO (Monocular Zoom Objective, single-tube continuously variable magnification objective) adopts a dual-end parallel optical path modular design concept, offering excellent optical performance and high configurability. It is specially designed for applications in machine vision inspection, industrial inspection, scientific research, and education.

The standard configuration of the TZM0880 series MZO is TZM0880-W3100-TV3100-A50, with the following features:

  • Continuously variable magnification from 0.8X to 8.0X, with a magnification ratio of 10X
  • High NA: 0.02-0.11 (using a 1X auxiliary objective)
  • High resolution: 15.3µm to 2.45µm (using a 1X auxiliary objective)
  • Wide field of view: 0.89mm to 42.86mm
  • Maximum compatible image sensor size: 2/3 inch (using a 1X TV lens)
  • Working distance: 56mm to 248mm
  • Adjustable back focal distance with parfocal zooming
  • Fixed image center during zooming
  • Compatible with infinity-corrected biological or metallurgical objectives
  • Compact dimensions: 194mm x 40mm (standard model)
  • Optional auxiliary objectives available in magnifications: 0.35x, 0.50x, 0.75x, 1.00x, 1.50x
  • Optional TV lenses available in magnifications: 0.50x, 0.75x, 1.00x

TZM0880 Series MZO Naming Rules

The TZM0880 series MZO consists of five basic modules, as shown in the diagram on the left. The five basic modules are: the continuous zoom body, the auxiliary objective, the TV lens, the mounting adapter, and the optional modules. Except for the continuous zoom body, users can choose the other modules according to their application requirements.


The final naming method for the TZM0880 series MZO is to separate the names of each module with a hyphen (“-”), forming a comprehensive name that makes it easy to identify the parameters of the MZO. For example, if you choose a continuous zoom body TZM0880D, a 1.00X auxiliary objective W3100, a 0.50X TV lens TV3050, and a 50mm mounting adapter A50, then the name of the continuous zoom microscope becomes: TZM0880D-W3100-TV3050-A50

Currently available TZM0880a modules: TZM0880 (standard version, with “a” omitted) and TZM0880D (D indicates fixed zoom).

Currently available W3bbb modules: W3100, W3035, W3050, W3075, W3150.

Currently available TV3ccc modules: TV3100, TV3050, TV3075.

Currently available Add modules: A50 and A45.

The optional modules mainly include ring light modules (standard ring light and polarized ring light) and a coaxial illumination module (consisting of a coaxial illuminator and an LED point light source).

Other magnifications of auxiliary objectives, TV lenses, and mounting adapters can be customized as needed.

Purchase and Matching

The parameters for different configurations of the TZM0880 series MZO are listed in the table below. You can determine the required combination by following these steps:

  • Determine the potential 1) FOV and 2) object-side working distance, and then select the auxiliary objective accordingly.
  • If using an infinity-corrected objective with 705, choose a lens adapter to convert from M26x0.705 to M20x0.705.
  • Based on 1) sensor size (1/x inch), 2) imaging diagonal, 3) imaging width, and 4) imaging height, determine the camera’s imaging circle size and select the appropriate TV lens.
  • Select a 45mm or 50mm mounting adapter.
  • Select an LED ring light module for reflective illumination.
  • If necessary, choose a coaxial illumination module.
  • If necessary, choose a transmitted light illumination module.
  • Select a compatible camera.

Module 2 is the interchangeable auxiliary objective, which is connected to the bottom of the continuous zoom body (Module 1) via a threaded connection. Its code is W3bbb, where “3” is the product series number and “bbb” represents the magnification of the auxiliary objective. Auxiliary objectives with different magnifications are used to switch the overall magnification of the TZM0880 series MZO; their working distances also vary. For example, compared with the auxiliary objective W3100 with 1.00X magnification and an 86mm working distance, an auxiliary objective W3050 with 0.50X magnification will halve the overall magnification of the TZM0880 series MZO, and its working distance will extend from 86mm to about 174mm, and so on; the optical parameters of the auxiliary objectives are shown in the table below.

* The same auxiliary objective, when paired with different TV lenses, only has a minimal effect on the field of view in order to accommodate different sizes of image sensors.

Module 3 is the interchangeable TV lens, which is connected to the top of the continuous zoom body (Module 1) via a threaded connection. Its code is TV3ccc, where “3” is the series number and “ccc” represents the magnification of the TV lens. It is mainly used to match image sensors of different sizes. For example, compared with the TV lens TV3100 with 1.00X, the TV lens TV3050 with 0.50X reduces the matched image sensor size by half while the field of view remains essentially unaffected; the parameters of the TV lens are shown in the table below.

* A TV lens with a higher magnification can also be paired with a smaller image sensor; however, this will reduce the overall field of view of the MZO.

Module 4 is the mounting adapter, used to adapt mounts of different diameters and is installed between the continuous zoom body modules. Its code is Add, with “dd” indicating the mount diameter; available in 45mm and 50mm versions. The mounting adapter and the mount installation method are shown in the diagram below.

The optional modules mainly include ring light modules (both standard and polarized ring lights) and a coaxial illumination module (consisting of a coaxial illuminator and LED point light source). The details of the optional modules are shown in the table below.
