TZM0480 Product Introduction

TZM0480 series MZO (Monocular Zoom Objective, a single-tube continuous zoom objective) adopts a modular design with parallel light paths at both ends. It offers superior optical performance and excellent configurability, and is designed specifically for applications in machine vision inspection, industrial inspection, scientific research, and education.

The standard configuration for the TZM0480 series MZO is TZM0480-W3100-TV3100-A50, featuring:

  • Continuous zoom from 0.4X to 8.0X with an overall zoom ratio of 20X
  • High NA: 0.01–0.12 (using a 1X auxiliary objective)
  • High resolution: 27.5μm to 2.3μm (using a 1X auxiliary objective)
  • Large field of view: 0.9mm to 86mm
  • Maximum compatible image sensor size: 2/3 inch (using a 1X TV lens)
  • Working distance: 56mm to 248mm
  • Adjustable back focus to maintain focus during zooming
  • Adjustable image center so that the image remains centered during zooming
  • Compatible with infinity-corrected biological or metallurgical objectives
  • Compact dimensions: 194mm x 40mm (standard model)
  • Optional auxiliary objectives available with magnifications of 0.35X, 0.50X, 0.75X, 1.00X, and 1.50X
  • Optional TV lenses available with magnifications of 0.50X, 0.75X, and 1.00X

TZM0480 Series MZO Naming Rules

The TZM0480 series MZO is composed of five fundamental modules, as shown in the image on the left. These modules are: the continuous zoom body, the auxiliary objective, the TV lens, the bracket adapter, and the optional modules. Except for the continuous zoom body, users can choose the other modules according to their application needs.


The final naming convention for the TZM0480 series MZO is to concatenate the names of each module with hyphens, forming a composite name that clearly indicates the MZO’s key parameters. For example, if you select a continuous zoom body TZM0480D, a 1.00X auxiliary objective W3100, a 0.50X TV lens TV3050, and a 50mm bracket adapter A50, the resulting name of the microscope objective will be: TZM0480D-W3100-TV3050-A50

Available TZM0480a modules: TZM0480 (standard version, with no suffix) and TZM0480D (where "D" denotes fixed zoom).

Available W3bbb modules: W3100, W3035, W3050, W3075, and W3150.

Available TV3ccc modules: TV3100, TV3050, and TV3075.

Available Add modules: A50 and A45.

The optional modules mainly include ring light modules (standard ring light and polarized ring light) and coaxial illumination modules (comprising a coaxial illuminator and an LED point light source).

Additional magnifications for auxiliary objectives, TV lenses, and bracket adapters can be customized as required.

Purchase & Matching

The parameters for different configurations of the TZM0480 series MZO are listed in the table below. You can determine the desired combination by following these steps:

  • Determine the possible 1) FOV and 2) object-side working distance, and select the appropriate auxiliary objective accordingly.
  • If using an infinity-corrected objective with a 705 specification, choose an adapter to convert M26x0.705 to M20x0.705.
  • Based on 1) the sensor size (in 1/x inches), 2) the diagonal length of the imaging area, 3) the imaging width, and 4) the imaging height, determine the size of the camera's imaging circle and select the appropriate TV lens.
  • Select a 45mm or 50mm bracket adapter.
  • Select an LED ring light module for reflective illumination.
  • If necessary, choose a coaxial illumination module.
  • If needed, select a transmission illumination module.
  • Choose the compatible camera.

Module 1 is the continuous zoom main body, which is the primary component of the TZM0480 series MZO. Its code is TZM0480a; here, "TZM0480" represents the continuous zoom main body code, and "a" indicates the auxiliary function code of the continuous zoom main body. The detailed definitions are shown in the table below.

Module 2 is the interchangeable auxiliary objective lens, which is connected via a threaded interface to the lower end of Module 1 (the continuously zooming main body). Its code is W3bbb, where "3" represents the product series number and "bbb" denotes the magnification of the auxiliary objective lens. Auxiliary objective lenses with different magnifications are used to change the overall magnification of the TZM0480 series MZO, and their working distances also vary. For example, compared to the auxiliary objective lens W3100 with a 1.00X magnification and an 86mm working distance, the auxiliary objective lens W3050 with a 0.50X magnification will reduce the overall magnification of the TZM0480 series MZO by half, while its working distance increases from 86mm to approximately 174mm, and so on. The optical parameters of the auxiliary objective lenses are shown in the table below.

Module 3 is the interchangeable TV lens, which can be attached via a threaded connection to the upper part of Module 1 (the continuously zooming main body). Its code is TV3ccc, where "3" represents the series number and "ccc" denotes the TV lens magnification. It is primarily used to match image sensors of various sizes. For example, compared to the 1.00X TV lens TV3100, the 0.50X TV lens TV3050 is designed for an image sensor that is half the size, while the field of view remains essentially unchanged. The TV lens parameters are shown in the table below.

* TV lenses with higher magnification can also be paired with smaller image sensors, although this will reduce the overall field of view of the MZO.

Module 4 is the mounting adapter, which is used to adapt mounts of different diameters. It fits around the middle of the continuously zooming main body (Module 1). Its code is "Add", with "dd" indicating the mounting diameter, available in 45mm and 50mm options. The installation method of the mounting adapter with the mount is shown in the image below.

The optional module mainly comprises ring light modules (available in both standard and polarized versions), as well as a coaxial illumination module (comprising a coaxial illuminator and LED point light). The details of the various optional modules are listed in the table below.
